Mike Holweger was a gifted multi-sport athlete for the Falcons who joins fellow Hall of Famer Jay Byrne as the only Falcon athletes to earn first team all-league honors in basketball for three straight years. His basketball career was capped by his selection as the MML Co-Player of the Year after his senior season, when he led the league in scoring with 19.2 points per game. He led that 1988 team to Fenwick's last District Championship and finished as Fenwick's second all-time leading scorer. Mike earned All-Ohio honors as a junior and senior, was nominated to the prestigious McDonald's All-American team, and received honorable mention listing on the Street & Smith's High School All-American team. He was selected by USA Today as one of the top fifteen players in Ohio prior to his senior campaign.
In addition to his basketball accomplishments, Mike was a two-time first team all-MML performer in baseball and was selected to the second all-MML golf team in his junior year. Mike enters the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility as one of the Falcon's most decorated athletes of all time. |
