| Mark Smith of Fairfield High School and Tom Meehan of Fenwick High were outstanding in a variety of sports, and both will be recognized for their achievements by being inducted into the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame later this month.
They will become part of the 23rd class of the Hall of Fame on November 28 when the dinner and induction ceremonies are held at The Hamilton Hotel in Hamilton. Meehan was perhaps the first Fenwick superstar. He graduated in 1959 after a remarkable high school career, during which he earned 12 varsity letters in basketball, football, baseball, and track. He earned all-state honors in basketball, was the MML's leading scorer and was selected to play in the Ohio All Star Game in 1959. (side note -- Fenwick did not join the Mid-Miami League until the 1964-65 school year) In addition, Meehan was a member of the All-MML football team in 1957 and was the leading hitter for the Falcon's baseball team. Tom was a member of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame selection committee for eight years. He now resides in Florida with his wife, Billy. -- printed from the Middletown Journal Weds., November 17, 2004 |

John "Butch" Rossi calls Tom his first superstar. Tom led Butler County in scoring with a 24 point average and pulled down 20+ rebounds per game his senior year. He was the number one choice in the balloting and named honorary captain his senior season in the Little Southwestern All-Star Team voting. He was an honorable mention All-Ohio selection back when Ohio had two classes. Tom was selected by Paul Walker to play on the Ohio All-Star Team against the Kentucky All-Stars.
