| Mary McConnell et al left their marks in area athletics in different ways but will be honored on the same night when they are inducted into the 27th class of the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame.
McConnell (Fenwick High School, Class of 1975) was a three-year varsity starter in basketball, volleyball, and softball and helped guide the Falcons to Mid-Miami League championships in volleyball(1974) and basketball(1975). She played basketball for 3 years at Ball State University while earning her bachelor of science degree in education with an endorsement in coaching. McConnell returned to Fenwick to coach basketball for seven years, and tennis and softball for 3 years each. As basketball coach, she led the Falcons to the state semifinals in 1983, one regional championship, two district titles and three MML titles, with an overall record of 202-108. -- printed from the Middletown Journal November 26, 2008. |
| McConnell, who helped lead Fenwick to league championships in volleyball and basketball, said, "if it weren't for the late John 'Butch' Rossi (former Fenwick boys basketball coach and athletic director), I would not be standing here tonight.

Mary McConnell was a three-year starter in basketball, volleyball and softball for some of Fenwick's first league affiliated women's teams. A basketball standout, Mary led the Falcons to a MML championship in her senior season. She was named Fenwick's "Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year" the same year.
