Tom Augspurger was a senior on Fenwick's first ever athletic teams. The Wick, in February, 1953 (volume 1, number 1), had this to say about Fenwick's first great player..."Tom Augspurger has come to his own as a celebrity on the hardwood. Basketball has always been his prime sport although he hold his own well in football and baseball. One thing that must be noticed is his cool, calm, and collected mannerism which he unendlessly displays in a game. Never being rattled, he has become the first Fenwick "great" and his name will surely be echoed for years to come."
Tom averages 20.7 points per game while leading the team to a #12 Class B ranking when Ohio had only a Class A(large schools) and Class B(small schools) system. Tom played center/forward at 6' and 160 pounds. He could run like a deer and jump out of the gym. Tom was selected by Paul Walker to play on the Ohio All-Star team that played at Xavier University on May 23, 1953. This was one of the greatest recognitions received during this era of hoops in Ohio. |
